Hitotsubashi ICS and UTokyo IPC to Hold 1st Meetup Event: Empowering MBA students’ opportunities with tech startups
PrintUTokyo Innovation Platform Co., Ltd. (hereinafter “UTokyo IPC”) and Hitotsubashi University Business School’s School of International Corporate Strategy (hereafter Hitotsubashi ICS) will hold a meetup event on Tuesday, October 17, 2023. This event brings together international students with overseas business experience who are enrolled in Hitotsubashi ICS’s MBA Program and technology startups supported by UTokyo IPC, the incubator and venture investment arm of the University of Tokyo.
This event will create matching opportunities for the MBA students at Hitotsubashi ICS who are interested in commercializing tech seeds at university-originated ventures or participating in the planning and launch of a university-affiliated tech . Our aim is to cultivate both business professionals and startups that can thrive in the global arena.
Upgraded management skills for commercializing research seeds
Hitotsubashi ICS has the distinction of being the first national university business school in Japan to offer an all-English MBA program. It is also the first public university in Japan to receive AACSB international accreditation (*1). This accreditation has been granted to business schools located in more than 30 countries around the world, including Harvard Business School and the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Hitotsubashi ICS has also been ranked first in Japan by the QS Global MBA Ranking (*2). More than 90% of the program’s participants are international students. In alignment with Hitotsubashi University’s mission to foster “Captains of Industry,” the program focuses especially on the development of the kind of skills required by business professionals who aim to work effectively all over the world.
UTokyo IPC is committed to further developing the University of Tokyo’s innovation ecosystem through its investments and activities, which include “1stRound”— Japan’s largest incubation program that is co-sponsored by thirteen including Hitotsubashi University. UTokyo IPC has also launched the match-making platform “DEEPTECH DIVE” to provide HR support to the tech startups it invests in and supports.
All companies supported by UTokyo IPC possess advanced research seeds and unique technologies originating from academic research. These startups require both academic strength (i.e., researchers with interesting outcomes) and professional management expertise to achieve growth as a business while simultaneously commercializing the seeds of academic research. UTokyo IPC cultivates an innovation ecosystem for university-affiliated startups and university-originated research seeds by providing HR support to startups.
Through collaboration between Hitotsubashi ICS and UTokyo IPC, we aim to create and nurture deep-tech startups that can thrive globally.
